Digging Deeper: Regenerative Agriculture

The “Regen” movement has been gaining traction recently (and rightly so), but what exactly is regenerative agriculture and why is it worth knowing about?

While there’s no strict definition, regenerative farming is fundamentally a mindset that puts soil health, optimal biodiversity and water cycles at the heart of growing food. It’s about working with nature to create systems where everything—from microscopic fungi to grazing animals—plays a role in sustaining a thriving ecosystem.

While organic farming is great, in some ways regenerative farming takes things a step further by actively restoring the soil it depends on. By improving soil structure and increasing organic matter, regenerative farming can help keep more carbon locked in the ground, reducing the amount released into the atmosphere.

Farming

In recent years, we've seen the rise of many stand-out regenerative farming brands revolutionising our wheat, bread, and pasta staples—brands like Wildfarmed and Northern Pasta Co. These pioneers are proving that farming methods prioritising soil health and biodiversity can result in more nutrient-dense, flavourful products. Better for the planet, better for people.

We have high hopes for the regen movement, and we're not alone. A number of our rena restaurants have chosen to work with and purchase produce from soil-loving regenerative farms, supporting a vital shift towards reshaping agriculture from the ground up—quite literally.
